Courtyard Preservation Project

Charles H. Bell Ruin Courtyard Preservation Project

Thank you for your patience during this critical asset preservation project.

There has seen substantial deterioration in areas of the ruin wall. Last year, we began the process of preserving this space by removing deteriorated mortar and debris and then installing new mortar (re-pointing) in portions of the ruin walls. This year, we are continuing that work. In addition to the re-pointing work, we will be removing some stone to allow for a comprehensive preservation effort. We anticipate the current phase of work will take two months, ending in July 2017.  Portions of the courtyard will be closed to the public during that time. While we regret and apologize for this disruption, the work is essential to preserving this National Historic Landmark and ensuring the safety of our visitors.

The work is being performed by Advanced Masonry Restoration, with architectural services by MacDonald & Mack Architects.
