Pre-visit Checklist
This checklist will help make sure you have everything you need to ensure your trip is a success.

Before your visit
Prepare teachers and chaperones
- Review Mill City Museum confirmation materials received via mail. Distribute copies to all teachers coming on the field trip.
- Recruit chaperones. We require one chaperone, 21 or older, for every 10
seventh - twelfth grade students, and one chaperone for every 5 kindergarten - sixth
grade students.
- Assign teachers and chaperones a group from the confirmation. Make sure they know their group number and schedule.
- Give chaperones the names of students they will be responsible for. Review museum rules and chaperone responsibilities.
Prepare students
- Divide students into the groups indicated on the confirmation.
- For the scavenger hunt, divide students into groups of 4 or 5, and assign a chaperone.
- Review museum rules.
Prepare for arrival
- Designate one teacher or chaperone from each group on the confirmation to check-in with the School Programs Facilitator. They should be ready to share the total number of students and total number of adults in their group.
- If eating lunch at the museum, gather lunches into boxes or bags - mark them with the school and teacher or chaperone name.
- Payment
-If paying the day of, bring cash, a check or a credit card. Be prepared to pay only for those students present the day of the field trip, along with any minimum fees per class.
- If invoicing, please bring the name and address of a billing contact.
On Arrival
- Unload buses at the red meters in front of the museum's S. 2nd Street entrance.
- Meet museum staff and/or volunteers outside the S. 2nd Street entrance.
- Bring lunches and coats into the museum (we will direct you to coatrooms).
- Running late? Please call 612-341-7556 to alert the museum.
Chaperone Responsibilities
- Chaperones must remain with their students at all times.
- We ask chaperones to actively participate in activities with students and to administer a self-guided scavenger hunt.
- Chaperones are responsible for following and enforcing museum rules.
- Thank you for volunteering your time.we appreciate it!
Museum Rules
- No running, pushing, throwing, or climbing
- No food, beverage (including water), gum, or pens in the exhibit gallery
- No screaming or yelling
- No rough-handling of exhibits
- Outside of pre-scheduled store time, only 5 students are allowed in the store at a time with a teacher or chaperone
- Please do not play on the turbine pits in the Ruin Courtyard, and be careful if exiting the building through the courtyard - cars on the River Road cannot see you as you exit.
- Ask questions! Museum staff and volunteers (in white aprons) can help answer your questions.
- Be open-mined, and have a good time!
